Cape Town - British TV personality and former model Katie Price has confirmed that convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius sent her direct messages on Twitter during his murder trial.

"It's true, he was direct messaging me during his trial,” Price said while she was appearing on the talk show Loose Women earlier this week.

Fallen Paralympian star Oscar Pistorius killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013. He went on trial for her murder in 2014.

It was reported at the time that Pistorius had been in contact with Price.

On the TV show this week Price and the panel were discussing her obsession with serial killers when she claimed Pistorius contacted her on Twitter following a column she had written during Pistorius’s trial.

"I mentioned him in a column I did for a magazine and it started from there. He was thanking me and I thought 'Oh is this really him?'.

"He had a verified tick and it was definitely him. I wasn't being biased or anything at the time. I was just saying let the courts decide."

Price added: "When all the media stuff was going on and before the verdict and it got to a point where I thought I can't message him and I don't want to message because I don't want to cross that barrier of dialogue."

Pistorius, 29, was initially cleared of murdering Steenkamp at his home in Pretoria, but found guilty of culpable homicide. However, his conviction was upgraded to murder after a prosecution appeal.

Now under house arrest, he faces 15 years in prison when he is sentenced in June.
