Durban - The Young Communist League has added its voice against the #FeesMustFall movement, saying it was led by criminals with polished English who were aiming to tarnish the image of Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande.

“Parents should watch out for the people who are criminals in #FeesMustFall. They are criminals who wanted to look good because they spoke good English,” YCL deputy secretary, Isaac Luthuli, said.

Luthuli made the comments during this week’s funeral service of Inchanga resident Phillip Dlamini, who was killed in a shooting at an SACP meeting in the area a week ago.

His comments come amid those of ANC Youth League president, Collen Maine, calling on the agencies to probe the #FeesMustFall movement.

Maine was quoted as claiming that the movement was of a “counter-revolutionary” movement bent on overthrowing the government.

He called on the State Security Agency to look into who was supporting the “highly funded” movement.

However, Luthuli alleged the movement was funded by some people within the ruling party, to score political points against Nzimande, who is also SACP general secretary.

Luthuli vowed that they would defend the leaders of SACP, as well as those of the YCL and their members.

He also insisted they would not leave the ANC unless they so wished.

“When we leave, we will go to communism,” he said, before sending a message to anti-communists that they would not have a peaceful life.

Luthuli said the SACP was part of the ANC in pursuance of the national democratic revolution agreed upon decades ago.

“We have not forgotten about our programme,” he said.
