Police claims that good progress is being made in the Senzo Meyiwa murder investigation are being taken with a pinch of salt - and have even been dismissed by some officers.

It is more than 15 months since the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Meyiwa was shot in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, while visiting his singer and actress girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, on October 26, 2014, yet no one has been charged.

Days after the incident, police questioned 13 people, but all were released.

The national head of detective services, Lieutenant-General Vineshkumar Moonoo, who was appointed to lead a special task team of senior detectives from national, provincial and local offices, is retiring at the end of this month and no breakthrough has been reported.

Acting national police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said: “We are are happy with the progress made.”

Mulaudzi was not prepared to divulge any information.

An insider at police headquarters, who is involved in the investigation, said: “There is definitely no new information coming through.

All the people who call in, probably enticed by the R250 000 reward, are telling us what we know. Without being negative, a year has gone by without any arrest and we are not getting any closer to solving this case.”

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) should call Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line at 32211.

There is a R250 000 reward.
