No bail for suspect in R3m mandrax bust

Kimberley – A 46-year-old man, suspected of being a drug dealer, will remain behind bars in Upington until his next court appearance on June 6.

Northern Cape police spokesperson, Major Dimakatso Mooi, said the man appeared in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Mooi said police received a tip-off from community members about criminal activity taking place at a house in Rietfontein.

“Information was followed up and the said premises were searched. Mandrax pills to the street value of R2 925 000 was discovered hidden in a bucket with cake flour and others on an ointment container which was in the suspect’s pocket”.

The accused had a previous drug related conviction and was denied bail.
