Cape Town - A Cape Town magician pointed out where the body of a missing young woman was buried, a court has heard.

Monwabisi Mbobo, made his first appearance inside a packed Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old was arrested on Monday morning after he pointed out to police a spot in the foundation of a house that is still under construction where the body of Anelisa Dulaze, 21, was dug up.

According to prosecutors the accused, a trained magician, met up with Anelisa at a tavern in Town Two where she was celebrating her 21st birthday.

Anelisa, from Nkanini, was reported missing the next day, on January 31.

State prosecutor Manelisi Macaba said it was unclear whether the victim willingly left the tavern with the accused and whether or not sexual intercourse took place when she spent the night at his Makhaza home.

Gasps could be heard from the public gallery as Macaba explained how Anelisa’s body was found.

“Witnesses say the accused had an argument with the deceased and he apparently fatally assaulted her,” he said.

“After the deceased passed away, the accused went and dug a hole next door where they were building flats.

“He buried her there since January and what was observed when her body was dug up was that her hands were tied up.

“The accused was the one who pointed out the site where he buried her.”

Mbobo had apparently confessed to killing Anelisa and burying her in the house, and someone then tipped off the cops.

During the brief court proceedings, the well-spoken magician informed Magistrate Patrick Menyiwe that he wished to appoint a private lawyer to represent him.

According to sources Mbobo is an ex-lover of Anelisa, but her friends and relatives deny this.

Anelisa’s mother, Vathiswa Dulaze says: “I wanted so see him for myself and he definitely wasn’t her boyfriend, he’s lying if that was what he is telling police.”

“They went to [primary] school together, that is probably why she felt comfortable enough to leave with him that night.”

The matter is back in court on May 17.
