Durban - Three Durban police officers have been arrested in connection with a Rossburgh hijacking and were expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said officers from Brighton Beach arrested three of their own on Wednesday for truck hijacking and theft of diesel.

This was after an intensive investigation, after a truck driver was accosted by six heavily armed men who locked him in a car boot and dumped him in Umbumbulu earlier this month, Zwane said.

The arrested police officers have also been linked to a number of February hijackings.

“The Durban Flying Squad recovered the truck in Jacobs Road. A security guard who was guarding the place during the recovery, drew a firearm and tried to shoot at police.

“He was also arrested and his unlicensed firearm was seized.”

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant- General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said more arrests were imminent.

They were expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court, facing several charges.
