Four held after shooting near Mall of Africa

Johannesburg - The newly opened Mall of Africa in Midrand had its first brush with serious crime when three people, one of whom is one believed to be a bystander, were shot nearby. The incident occurred at around 2pm on Wednesday afternoon along Magwa Crescent and Simlak Drive in Waterfall.

Police spokesman Captain Mofokeng said SAPS were in the area and responded swiftly. The police arrested four suspects and confiscated seven firearms.

"For the safety of the injured, the hospitals the patients were taken to cannot be divulged," Captain Mofokeng said.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, there were three people shot, two were in a serious to moderate condition, whilst the third had been critical..

One victim had to be airlifted to hospital.

Last month one person was killed in a similar incident and four others injured on Allendale Road in Waterfall.
