Welkom – Free State police are on the hunt for two suspects who raped a schoolgirl at knifepoint in Welkom.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said: “On April 24, 2016, at about 2pm, a 17-year-old girl was [walking] from school when she was apparently approached by two young men who forced her to a mountain heap next to Bronville, Welkom at knife point.”

Thakeng said the suspects rummaged in her handbag and took the schoolgirl’s cellphone.

“She was threatened with a knife. She was repeatedly raped by one of the boys. She was left there and managed to walk home, where she reported the incident to her sisters who took her to the police,” said Thakeng.

“The two suspects are still at large and a manhunt has been launched,” Thakeng said.
