ANC executive member Andile Lili has been arrested in the early hours of Friday morning, allegedly for contempt of court.

The political activist and leader of the Ses’khona movement Andile Lili was released on bail in August last year following his arrest for allegedly urging a group of supporters outside the Bellville Magistrate’s Court to kill criminals such as murderers and rapists.

He was released on bail of R5000 and warned to appear in the Bellville Regional Court.

He is charged with incitement to commit murder, framed in terms of the Riotous Assemblies Act.

Lili had been ordered to report to the Harare police station in Khayelitsha on Mondays between 6am and 8pm, and to refrain from inciting supporters to commit any offences when addressing Ses’khona gatherings

ANC spokesperson Jabu Mfusi confirmed Lili's arrest and that the party's Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) would meet on Friday to discuss the matter.

"It is true that comrade Andile Lili was arrested this morning at 3am for allegations of failing to adhere to his sentence conditions.

"I can not confirm as to when he will be appearing. The ANC PEC will be meeting today (Friday) to deal with this matter of comrades who are facing damning allegations, including those that were found guilty in the criminal court of Justice because we adhere and respect the independence and the outcomes of court," Mfusi said.

Lili was also among a group of nine accused who were found guilty in the Bellville Regional Court of violating the Civil Aviation Act by emptying buckets of human waste at the entrance to, and inside, the international departures terminal at the Cape Town International Airport two years ago.

Lili also had another court case pending in Cape Town for allegedly emptying buckets of human waste outside the provincial legislature in Wale Street.
