A feather in this hotel’s cap

Cape Town - On the eve of our 10-year wedding anniversary, my hubby was very hush-hush, refusing to tell me anything.

Finally the day before our “anniversary dinner” his instructions were to pack an overnight bag and wear something fancy - nothing more was said on the matter.

Excited just to be out and away from our routine, I rushed to pack a bag, dress up to the nines and wait anxiously in the car as he typed in some co-ordinates on Google Maps, all the time keeping his phone as far away from me as possible. To say the suspense was killing me was understatement - I’m the type of person who hates suprises, so much so that I’ll prod and pry until I get what I want.

So off onto the N1, heading in the direction of Paarl, we went. Oh, the thoughts that were going through my head: Franschhoek, oh we’re definately going there. Maybe a cosy cabin in the woods with a lovely fireplace. Or maybe a little boutiqe hotel tucked away off the mainroad.

And then suddenly just like that, we took the turnoff off the N1, heading for Durbanville. Durbanville? What’s in Durbanville, was my very first thought. I look over at hubby and still his face gives off nothing. I’m confused, but excited confused. Into a residential area we drive and through a pair of unassuming gates. The sign infront says Feathers Boutique Hotel. I’ve never heard of it before. They must be new?

Into the reception area we are led by the night manager and then whisked to one of the most beautiful honeymoon suites I’ve ever seen. Cosy fireplace: check. Comfy bed: check. Jacuzzi bath: check.

I was so impressed, I mailed the owners the next day to send some more info on their hotel. This is what they sent:

This 4-star establishment in a quiet Durbanville neighbourhood bordering a large green space is passionate about offering exceedingly more than the basic star grading requirements.

Whether you’re a bride-to-be, a weary businessman or a globetrotter, their boutique status enables them to cater to your specific needs. Expect warm, personal attention when you need it, and discreet privacy when you so desire.

For Feathers Boutique Hotel the much-appreciated awards are less about receiving a pat on the shoulder than about providing their loyal visitors, and prospective customers, with the assurances they need when making a booking.
