Supersport United coach Gavin Hunt wants Matsatsantsa a Pitori to end the year 2012 on a high.
Hunt, who endured one of the toughest periods in his long coaching career as SuperSport drew 11 of the 14 matches, is adamant his side can collect six points in matches against Platinum Stars on Saturday and Ajax Cape Town next Wednesday.
“We have to finish the year better,” said Hunt.
“We have two matches left. Stars are the form team in South Africa at the moment.
“They have a settled team. They have scored the most goals. They are on fire.
“We have our backs against the wall at the moment. Against Ajax, it will be our first game of the second half.
“We need to kick on and try to get some positive results.”
Hunt and his men will go into the two fixtures oozing confidence after they beat Moroka Swallows 3-2 last Friday to end a string of poor results highlighted by 11 draws out of 13 matches.
Hunt was a relieved man as his men got maximum points away from home.
“It wasn’t our best performance. We have played far better when we were drawing games. It shows how football is. It is a fickle game.
“We didn’t know when a win was going to come after so many draws.
“We are so far behind we need a couple of more.
“By now we were supposed to have 28 points,” said the former Leopards coach, whose team are in eighth position with 17 points.
With all the draws, SuperSport dropped some valuable points in the hunt for honours.
At the end of the season, Hunt will look back cursing the draws. The three times PSL championship winning coach says the drawing spree was something new in his career.
“In 30 years of a career in football, I have never seen it. What can you do? It’s football. At least we are not losing. Last season this time, after 14 games, we had one loss and we were top of the league. This year we have played 14 games, suffered just one loss in the league, but we are eighth in the league,” said Hunt.
When SuperSport host Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, Hunt will be hoping his team can reproduce the same form that saw them amass maximum points against Swallows.
But Stars will be no pushovers.
They are third on the Absa Premiership table with 28 points – the same number as Orlando Pirates, who are second.
Hunt will pin his hopes on the versatile Ashley Hartog, whose return from injury has seen SuperSport benefit two goals and four points from his contribution. - Pretoria News
