Tottenham could face a damaging FA investigation following a furious spat between players and benches from both sides last night.

During the angry exchanges, Spurs midfielder Mousa Dembele was seen to eye-gouge Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

If that particular incident was missed by referee Mark Clattenburg, then the influential Belgian could face disciplinary action from the FA.

Dembele could be slapped with a three-match suspension if the clash with Costa is subject to a probe by Wembley chiefs, meaning he would miss the rest of Spurs’ Premier League campaign and the opening game of next season. Boss Mauricio Pochettino could also find himself in hot water with the FA after storming on to the pitch to separate a confrontation between Chelsea attacker Willian and Spurs left back Danny Rose.

The pair went toe-to-toe just in front of Pochettino’s technical area and the Argentine took matters into his own hands by entering the pitch to separate the scrapping duo.

Pochettino’s surprise intervention triggered the mass melee between the arch London rivals as tempers boiled over on a tension-filled night.

The FA will await referee Clattenburg’s report this morning before deciding whether to investigate the bust-up.

But Spurs, who face a battle for second place with rivals Arsenal, will hope none of their players are charged.
