Wits off to a good start in Confed Cup

Johannesburg - Bidvest Wits romped to a 3-0 victory over Light Stars in their Confederation Cup match at Stade d'Amitie, Seychelles, on Saturday.

The Clever Boys kept up their hot league form which has seen them rise to second the Premiership table, and were to good for their hosts on the day.

The South African representatives started the match in dominant fashion with the opening goal coming in the seventh minute. Veteran midfielder Dillon Sheppard was on target to help his side to a 1-0 lead. Sibusiso Vilakazi made it 2-0 in the 25th minute when he produced a clinical finish to double his side's advantage.

The scoreline was made even more comprehensive for Wits on the hour mark. Marcus Lecki chipped in with the third goal for his side, completing a rousing performance for the South African outfit in the African competition.

Wits did come into the game with experience in the competition, as they also competed in the Confederation Cup last season. Light Stars, in contrast, were taking part in the Cup competition for the first time. - African News Agency (ANA)
