All Bloemfontein Celtic midfield enforcer Letladi Madubanya cares about is winning.
Madubanya, who has won three league titles with SuperSport United, says the main reason he chose football is because of his desire to win.
As such the midfield strongman wants to add a fourth medal to his collection by winning the Telkom Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend.
“I want to win another medal. That’s why I am in this business. I could have been a lawyer or something but this is what I want to do. I want to retire and have things to show that I played football at the highest level. I want to show I won this and that,” said Madubanya.
“I am an eternal optimist. Every game I play in, I want to win.”
Madubanya, who is usually deployed in central midfield position, has been one of the outstanding performers for Celtic so far this season.
He is one of the players that Celtic coach Clinton Larsen will call upon to thwart Sundowns’ advances in midfield and also to guide the youngsters.
The 28-year-old from Alexandra says Siwelele will do their best to give Sundowns a run for their money during their battle at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this Saturday night.
“We are going to put Sundowns to test and see how good they are. Every game is competition. I have been watching their games.
“They have been playing good but they have been unlucky when it comes to scoring goals. They have very good individual players but it’s not individuals that make the team. Teams win but individuals win individual trophies like man of the match. As a team, we are going to put them to the test,” said the former Alexandra United player.
On Saturday night, Madubanya will have to compete with and edge out the likes of Teko Modise, Esrom Nyandoro or Hlompho Kekana in the middle of the park in order for him and Celtic to go all the way to glory. Sundowns would be buoyed by their recent win over Celtic when the two sides battle it out for glory and the R4.2 million cheque.
In recent matches, the Brazilians, who are second from bottom on the Absa Premiership standings, have showed some steady improvement from their nightmarish start.
With players such as Ruzaigh Gamildein, Joel Mogorosi, Lerato Manzini and a host of others, Celtic have what it takes to put on a performance that could get them the trophy.
Madubanya says Celtic will fight with all they have to make sure that the trophy heads to Free State.
“It’s going to be a fight. It’s going to be a humdinger,” said Madubanya.
