Johannesburg - Springbok wing Bryan Habana has been included on a shortlist of four players for the International Rugby Board's (IRB) Try of the Year award.
The 29-year-old South African was nominated alongside New Zealand's Hosea Gear and Julian Savea, and Julien Malzieu of France for the annual accolade.
The nominees were selected by a panel including All Blacks Test centurion Mils Muliaina, Springbok Jaque Fourie, who won the Try of the Year in 2009, former IRB Player of the Year Shane Williams and Japan’s Daisuke Ohata, the leading try-scorer in Test rugby.
Habana’s try stemmed from a lineout on the All Blacks’ 10m line during the Rugby Championship match in Dunedin in September.
While off balance, Bok scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar was able to get his pass away to the on-rushing Habana, who took the ball at pace and then gathered his own chip ahead for a marvellous five-pointer. - Sapa
