Bloemfontein - A small white coffin symbolising a mock political funeral of Julius Malema was doused with petrol and set on fire at the ANC conference.

This happened on Tuesday “to mark Malema’s political death” and to celebrate President Jacob Zuma’s re-election as ANC leader. The inscription on the coffin read: “RIP Juju. He leaves behind KOKO Sarah”.

Malema’s detractors also wrote that he was born in April 2008 (the year he was first elected ANC Youth League leader) and died in December 2012 in Mangaung.

Wearing T-shirts bearing Zuma’s face, they waved ANC flags as they hoisted the coffin high along Nelson Mandela Avenue outside the conference venue.

Most of the group of about 30 came from Limpopo, Malema’s home province.

Many of them were not delegates to the conference. Among them was Malema’s childhood friend-turned-enemy, Boy Mamabolo, and Onnica Kwakwa-Moloi, previously ANCYL provincial executive while Malema was still the youth leader in Limpopo.

The group pretended to be crying as a red T-shirt with Malema’s picture, with “100 percent for Zuma, 20 percent for woodwork” written on it, was wrapped around the coffin. It was doused with petrol, then set on fire. The mock ceremony occurred at Free State University’s main entrance. - The Star
