Cape Town - A woman died and a man was injured in a car crash on the R300 between Van Riebeeck Road and the Stellenbosch Arterial, Cape Town, on Saturday morning, Western Cape paramedics said.

Shortly before 7am paramedics arrived on the scene where they found a car completely ripped open in the front, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said in a statement.

“A woman was lying a few metres away from the wreckage. Upon assessment paramedics found that she showed no signs of life. Unfortunately there was nothing that they could do for her and she was declared dead on the scene.”

“A man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was found walking around on scene. He was assessed by paramedics and treated for cuts and bruises. He was later transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment,” he said.

The cause of the crash was not yet known. It was believed the car smashed into a pedestrian bridge on the R300.

Local authorities attended the incident and would investigate, Vermaak said.
