Taung, North West - The body of a six-year-old boy was found floating in Vaalharts Canal in Magogong Village near Taung, North West police said on Thursday.

He was reported missing on Wednesday after he was last seen playing with friends near the canal. His body was discovered later that day, Captain Pelonomi Makau said.

“The body was seen by Vaalharts water scheme workers when they were patrolling and cleaning the canal,” said Makau.

Police have opened an inquest docket.

Another inquest was opened after a decomposed woman's body was found in the bush along the N4 between Swartruggens and Rustenburg on Tuesday.

Makau said it was discovered by a farmworker, who alerted police.

“It is alleged that the deceased could have been murdered and dumped at the area two weeks ago.”

She was wearing blue denim jeans, black shoes, a black belt and a brown shirt. Next-of-kin have not been located.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police. - Sapa
