Durban - Two people have died in two separate collisions in Durban on Friday morning, forcing road closures and leaving motorists frustrated.

A pedestrian and three motorists were injured in a collision involving two vehicles on the M4 north-bound, near Virginia.

A section of the M4 had to be closed while emergency services were at the scene.

Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical said a car ran over a pedestrian before overturning and colliding with another car. The pedestrian, was found dead on the road.

Three occupants from the two vehicles suffered injuries. One of them, a woman, was taken to hospital.

Gateway Private Hospital worker, Salma Bera, said she arrived an hour late for work because of the collision.

She was stuck on the freeway in a place where there were no off-ramps to bypass the collision.

In another accident, a man was killed and two others injured when a truck carrying scrap metal and a car collided on the N3 near the Mariannhill Toll plaza.

ER 24 paramedics said the truck had overturned spilling its load across the road.

It is believed that the driver lost control of the truck, causing it to roll over the centre barrier and colliding with a light motor vehicle.

A man was found lying a few metres from the truck, dead.

One man was found trapped inside the truck and another person inside a vehicle.

Both had suffered slight injuries and were taken to hospital.

Rescue services had to use the Jaws of Life to free the trapped man from the truck.

The road was still closed at the time of publication.

In a third incident, a truck lost its load on the M13 between the Hillcrest and Everton Road turn-offs on the Durban-bound side.

Metro police spokesman, S’bonelo Mchunu, confirmed a truck had lost its load.

It was carrying transformers which caused an oil spillage on the road.

The fire department had to clean the spillage before the road could be opened.
