Pietermaritzburg - A 32-year-old woman was killed Monday morning after she was mauled by three dogs at her home in KwaZulu Natal, ER24 paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the incident occurred on Braithwaite Road in Pietermaritzburg.

“Paramedics, along with SAPS Search and Rescue, arrived at the residence shortly before 11h00 this (on Monday) morning.”

Meiring said the three dogs – two rottweilers and a boerbull – who apparently belonged to the woman were standing next to the woman’s body which made it impossible for emergency personnel to approach her.

“Efforts were made in removing the dogs, as well as to chase them away. Unfortunately, all the efforts proved unsuccessful and two of the three dogs had to put down by the police. The third animal fled shortly after.”

Paramedics climbed over the fence and immediately assessed the woman but unfortunately she had already succumbed to her multiple fatal injuries, Meiring said.

Nothing more could be done for the woman and she was declared dead on scene.

It is unknown as what caused the dogs to attack the woman but authorities were on scene for further investigations.
