Johannesburg – One of Johannesburg’s expensive estates, Waterfall in Midrand, would soon incorporate affordable housing for the city’s residents, mayor Parks Tau said on Wednesday.
Tau said this was part of the city’s plan to continue incorporating people to live within the areas where they work.
“This means more people across a range of incomes are able to live richer lives much closer to where they can live, work and play. We engaged with the developers of new towns in Waterfall Estate and Modderfontein to ensure there will be affordable housing included in these new mega developments,” Tau said during his sate of the city address.
Waterfall is a mixture of luxury housing commercial properties in Midrand, also referred to as Waterfall City. The new shopping mall, Mall of Africa – the biggest shopping centre on the continent, is situated within Waterfall.
While empty stands cost hundreds of thousands of rand at Waterfall, fully completed luxury houses cost millions of rand.
