Cape Town - ANC members should rise above petty squabbles and align themselves with policy development, the Limpopo ANC Youth League said on Friday.
It had called for a radical shift in policies and had identified a stance which would both sustain the party beyond its national conference and ensure policies were implemented, it said in a statement.
It also called on members to ensure “bogus delegations” did not participate in the conference.
The African National Congress could not be open to manipulation at this point in its evolution, said ANCYL Limpopo spokesman Klaas Nono Mabunda.
He called on members to elect Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe president of the ANC and Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula as secretary-general.
The ANCYL's national office has also proposed that the party come up with a radical plan of action at Mangaung.
It said it intended making proposals on, among other things, the expropriation of land without compensation and mine nationalisation.
“The ANCYL shall reaffirm the policy positions adopted at the policy conference and continue to call for a radical programme plan of action towards the realisation of economic freedom in our lifetime...,” it said.
On the expropriation of land without compensation, the ANCYL said it would call for the amendment of section 25 of the Constitution “to give effect to this imperative”.
It wanted mines “strategically nationalised” based on their economic importance.
“To this end, we shall be proposing nationalisation of the following minerals: iron ore, magnesium, platinum group minerals, vanadium, manganese, coal and zinc,” it said.
“We will further call for the re-nationalisation of Sasol, ArcelorMittal and Kumba Iron Ore as strategic assets that should be under the stewardship of the state for the broader benefit of all South Africans.”
The ANCYL said the Mangaung conference, which will be held from Sunday to Friday, should place the Freedom Charter at the centre of its decision making.
