Port Elizabeth - The ANC illegally erected posters in Port Elizabeth as part of its 101st anniversary celebrations, the DA said on Monday.

“These posters have been reported to be blocking the view of the traffic and in some instances to have been put up too low,” Democratic Alliance regional spokesman Knight Mali said in a statement.

“The DA has since discovered that these posters have been erected without obtaining the required permission... (and) is calling on the ANC to abide by the law and remove the illegally erected posters.”

African National Congress regional secretary Zandisile Qupe disputed this.

“For them it is a reaction to the ANC's success in Nelson Mandela Bay. They say they want to be the ruling party, and when they see this they get worried and they try and find things to use against the ANC.

“When we put up posters on the roads, we put them high up for the motorists to see. They have not been put up illegally.”
