Cape Town – The African National Congress’ (ANC) Boland region on Thursday said it was looking to correct the misinformation posted by a social media user regarding the alleged suspension of the region’s secretary Jonton Snyman.

“[We have] noted a Facebook post by a certain Sihle Makasi insinuating that the ANC Boland Regional Secretary has been suspended by its office bearers,” said regional chairperson Patrick Marran.

According to the post, said Marran, Makasi had alleged that the region’s office bearers met on Wednesday to suspend regional secretary Jonton Snyman for irregularities in the candidate selection process.

“This Facebook post has now also reached the media [and] it appears in the SON koerant [on] 26 May 2016, page 14. We strongly reprove the SON newspaper for running this story without verifying whether the post… is indeed factual,” said Marran.

Marran ardently denied the allegation saying that he and Snyman were in attendance at the provincial executive committee (PEC) meeting on Wednesday which ended on Thursday morning. In it, a discussion about Snyman’s alleged suspension had never taken place.

He added that the region did not have the authority or power to suspend and could only make recommendations for suspension to be carried out by the PEC.

“The regional office bearers agree that the post is malicious and therefore we distance ourselves from what has been reported in newspapers as well as in social media regarding the statement,” said Marran.

The region’s response to the post follows an appearance by embattled provincial chairperson Marius Fransman on news channel eNCA.

Speaking to news anchor Michelle Craig on Tuesday, Fransman accused Snyman of having plotted against him and being the source of allegations that Fransman had sexually harassed 21-year-old Louisa Wynand, alleged to have worked as his personal assistant.

Fransman went on to call Snyman a “convicted fraudster” who had been found guilty in a court of law in 2015 and stated that Snyman had attempted to convince at least five women to manufacture statements against him.

Attempts to contact Snyman for comment were unsuccessful.
