King William’s Town - A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his former girlfriend, Eastern Cape police said in a statement Thursday.

Ngqamakhwe police detectives arrested the suspect on Wednesday in the Mangondin informal settlement in Ndakana village.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the two had previously lived together in the victim's house.

He said the 51-year-old victim, Nonzame Somagaca, ended the relationship in January and ordered the suspect to move out of her house.

On Monday, February 1 she was stabbed multiple times at about 9pm and was found by members of the community after they heard her screams.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate Court on Thursday and will be charged with murder.
