Cape Town – Two men have been arrested in Philippi East, Cape Town, for alleged possession of 20 bags of dagga worth about R600 000, Western Cape police said on Friday.

Flying squad officers were patrolling on the R300 highway shortly after midnight on Friday morning when they received information about a suspicious Toyota Quantum minibus, Captain FC van Wyk said.

“Members spotted the vehicle on the highway and followed it until they came to a point where they ordered the driver to stop the vehicle, at the corner of Sheffield and Stock roads,” he said.

Two men, aged 34 and 40, were arrested after a search revealed 20 large bags of dagga. Cash in the amount of R1490 was also seized.

An investigation was launched to determine whether the two men were linked to other criminal activities. They would appear in the Philippi Magistrate’s Court soon.

Van Wyk urged the community to continue providing information to police. Information could also be reported to Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
