Durban - Police detectives said on Friday that they traced and arrested two suspects whom they believe killed two people and dumped their bodies at a taxi rank in Umlazi at the weekend.

“Last night and a vehicle suspected to be used in dumping the victims at taxi rank was also recovered. The arrested suspects aged between 18 and 39 will appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” said the police.

On Saturday at around noon, Umlazi police attended to a murder scene at Prince Mshiyeni Taxi Rank, Umlazi. It is alleged that two bodies were dumped at the taxi rank by an unknown white VW Polo vehicle.

“Two counts of murder were opened at Umlazi police station for further investigation. It appeared that the two victims were assaulted at A section, Umlazi, loaded in a vehicle and were dumped at Prince Mshiyeni taxi rank,” the police said.

“They were allegedly accused of stealing money from a house at A section, Umlazi. The deceased were identified as Nhlakanipho Ngobese, 27, and Sibusiso Dlamini, 25. Dedicated members from Umlazi detectives took over investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects.”

Kwazulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the senseless killing of people in this manner.

“There are still some of community members who are still practising vigilantism. I want to warn them that we will make sure that those involved in taking the law into their own hands will be brought to book. I thank the Umlazi detective members for their outstanding work that led to the arrest of these suspects who are believed to be family members,” she said.
