Johannesburg – Three men aged between 18 and 60 were arrested on Thursday and will appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court for being in possession of suspected stolen goats valued at R49 000, police in KwaZulu-Natal said.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the three men were arrested in the Mandeni area, north of Durban.

“Kokstad Stock Theft Unit worked tirelessly tracing suspects allegedly involved in stealing live stock at Umzimkhulu area. Twenty two goats were recovered from their possession.”

Zwane said that the owner of the goats had locked them in their kraal, only later to find all 33 goats gone.

“The members started their investigation and this morning, 5 May 2016 they received information about the whereabouts of stolen goats.”

The recovered goats were positively identified by the owner and three suspects were arrested, he said.

“They could not give satisfactory explanation as to how they got hold of these goats.”

Eleven goats were still missing and the police were still searching for them.

The three men will appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
