Gauteng - A 16-year-old boy driving his grandmother's car ploughed into four girls, aged eight and nine, killing two of them, in Ivory Park, near Tembisa, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhavha said the teenager took the car without his grandmother's consent on Monday.

He was driving in the suburb of Ebony Park around 5pm when he struck the children.

“Two of them died on the scene and the others were taken to Tembisa hospital,” Ralidzhavha said.

The teenager was arrested and appeared in the Tembisa Family Court.

He was released into his parents' custody and would appear again on November 28 on charges of culpable homicide, driving without a licence, reckless or negligent driving, causing injury, and using a car without the owner's consent. - Sapa
