Durban – A suspected armed robber was shot and killed in a shoot-out with police after a Durban bus driver was held up at gunpoint, police said on Thursday.

Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said that the bus driver was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects at about 7pm in the Newlands area on Wednesday night.

Police were alerted and the two men were tracked to a house near Newlands, where a shoot-out ensued and one of the robbers was fatally wounded.

The other man was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.

Zwane said a case of armed robbery had been opened and that an inquest docket into the death of the robber would also be investigated.
