Policeman held for teen’s rape

Pretoria – A policeman has been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Rabie Ridge near Midrand, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said on Wednesday.

“It is alleged that the victim was visiting her mom to baby sit her younger brother as her mother was working. It is alleged that a police constable raped the teenager while her mother was at work twice in their rented room in Rabie Ridge,” said acting spokesperson Robbie Raburabu.

“A case of rape was opened and investigated by Ipid. The suspect was arrested detained at Ivory Park Police Station and he appeared at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 03 May 2016, on charges of rape. The matter has rolled over to 20 May 2016, for formal bail application. The suspect is remanded in custody.”

Raburabu said the 34-year-old police constable is attached to the Sandton police station in, Gauteng.
