Durban - There was yet more bloodshed at the Glebelands hostel in Durban at the weekend where two men were killed.

Bongani Hlophe and Bandile Ngcobo, both believed to be in their mid-forties, were gunned down at the hostel’s Block 52 on Saturday night. They were in the same room and the violence is suspected to be linked to the continued fight over the allocation of beds. The killers were wearing balaclavas.

There have been repeated attempts to stabilise the volatile hostel, but the killing continues. Once again KwaZulu-Natal community safety MEC Willies Mchunu said the situation at the hostel was unacceptable and that extraordinary interventions were required to end the violence.

The incident comes about a month after two hostel residents, William Mthembu and Thokozani Machi, were killed outside a Montclair shopping centre.

Mchunu said the murders were carried out in a similar fashion and all involved seem to know one another.

Mchunu said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the killing of Mthembu. He was also suspected to be linked to another murder at the hostel.

He was due to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court. Another suspect was arrested in the same case a week ago.

On Sunday night, police had taken in a man for questioning in connection with the latest killings.
