Man confesses to strangling girlfriend

Johannesburg - John Botshabelo, 42, appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrates' Court on Tuesday for allegedly murdering his girlfriend in Promosa, Ikageng.

Police in North West said Botshabelo was remanded in custody until Friday, for a formal bail application.

The arrested man allegedly murdered his 33-year-old girlfriend on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, police found the woman's body in Promosa Baipei.

Police said they carried out an investigation, which involved questioning the deceased's boyfriend, Botshabelo, who confessed that he had strangled her.

Botshabelo was then arrested and charged with murder.

Police management in the North West, led by Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, extended their gratitude to the community who had assisted with the investigation.
