The ANC in Limpopo will once again defy Luthuli House’s wishes and attend Julius Malema’s court case on Friday.
The provincial executive committee (PEC) said it believed it would not be wise to stay away from the court hearing.
The province has said previously that state agencies were being used to fight political battles.
This has deepened divisions between itself and the ANC’s national leadership.
The ANC said in September that the province’s statement was misleading and that it undermined the rule of law.
On Wednesday, provincial party spokesman Makonde Mathivha said the PEC’s initial decision to attend the court case still stood. This is despite Malema being banned from all of the party’s structures.
Asked if this was not in defiance of the ANC leadership’s decision to distance Malema from party structures, Mathivha said: “It says don’t associate with certain individuals, but here we are associating ourselves with our own government [Limpopo].
“There is no position by the ANC requiring its structures not to go to court when matters affecting the ANC-led government are adjudicated,” Mathivha said.
“We can’t rely on rumours. So we must be there ourselves to experience the extent which our government is alleged to be corrupt,” he said.
