KwaZulu-Natal - An HIV counsellor was arrested after he allegedly raped a woman he was supposed to advise.

The 36-year-old counsellor was arrested last Friday after he allegedly raped the 21-year-old, who had gone to an Eshowe clinic to collect her HIV test results.

Police spokesman, Captain Tienkie van Vuuren, said when the victim arrived at the clinic last Thursday, the counsellor, who cannot be named as he has not yet pleaded, told her he needed to examine her as she was also pregnant. “He ended up touching her private parts and then had sex with her against her will.”

The victim alerted the sister on duty but the man had fled. The counsellor was arrested the next day by the Family Crime and Sexual Offences Unit, when he reported for work.

A man appeared in Eshowe Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to next month for a bail application. - Daily News
