Pretoria -

Four foreign nationals were arrested after a seven-year-old girl was kidnapped outside her school, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The foster mother was dropping the child off at Waterkloof Primary School in Pretoria around 7.30am on Wednesday when she was approached by four men, spokeswoman Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.

They allegedly claimed to be police officers, forced her from her car and tried to bind her hands with cable ties.

The girl's father emerged, allegedly snatched the girl and sped off.

Other parents alerted the police and the four were arrested on the scene as they tried to get the woman into their car.

“Police are now searching for the girl and her 42-year-old father who got away in a beige Mercedes Benz with registration number SPR 947 GP. Police believe that he will be attempting to take the child out of the country.”

After the girl's biological parents had marital problems she was placed in the foster mother's care. The men were allegedly promised R5000 to kidnap the child, Tsinyane said.

The four, aged between 21 and 45, would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court soon on charges of kidnapping and impersonating police officers. - Sapa
