East London - Four people have been arrested for two murders in Duncan Village, East London, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

Three of them, including a woman, were arrested on Wednesday, and the fourth on Thursday morning, after a tip-off, Captain Stephen Marais said.

They were accused of kidnapping and killing a man and a woman in Scenery Park last week. The two had been stabbed in the abdomen. Their bodies were found tied up on Saturday.

“The first victim, aged in his 30s, was found on the sports field tied up with his hands behind his back to a pole. The second victim, a female in her 30s, was found some several metres away, also tied up.”

The motive was not known. The four people arrested, aged between 23 and 31, would appear soon in the East London Magistrate's Court on charges of murder, rape, kidnapping, and robbery.

Marais did not explain the rape and robbery charges.

“That forms part of our investigations, we cannot reveal that now as they haven't appeared in court.” - Sapa
