Carnavon, Northern Cape - A police officer who killed his girlfriend and her mother was found dead in Carnarvon on Thursday, Northern Cape police said.
Constable Serame Mpolokeng had been sought for the murder of his girlfriend Zola Malleta, 24, and her mother Sara Malleta, 54, Lt Olebogeng Tawana said.
Mpolokeng stabbed his girlfriend several times with a bottle on December 13. He ran away when the police arrived at the crime scene. His girlfriend was taken to Carnarvon Hospital. He went there later that day and found her. Her mother was visiting her. He shot and killed both women and went on the run.
A farmer walking in the veld found Mpolokeng's body on Thursday after following the smell of decomposition.
The officer's service pistol and two cellphones were found next to him. His car keys were in his pocket.
