Cape Town - The SPCA has launched a manhunt for a cat killer, after the mangled body of a cat was found strangled and buried.

This is the second case of a murdered pet in less than a week on the Cape Flats.

Last week, Antonie Gericke appeared at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of animal cruelty.

It is believed Gericke shot and killed a cat belonging to his Diep River neighbours, Wayne Cleinwerck and Bliqees Masoet.

Nahla was allegedly shot on on January 29, but her body is still missing.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is now asking the community to assist in finding the killer of the strangled cat which was found buried in a private garden in Observatory last week.

The rotting body was discovered by a shocked gardener.

The feline was identified as a missing cat from the community.

The SPCA’s Belinda Abraham appealed for the cat’s killer to be brought to book.

“The cat’s eyes were both bulging and protruding and the tongue was extended and blackened,” Belinda says.

“A black ribbon was tied around her neck.

“This was tightly tied with multiple knots and a rope extended from this into the property behind the garden that the cat was found in.

“We would like to appeal to community members for any information that could lead to the successful prosecution of the perpetrator.”

Meanwhile, the organisation CATS (Cat Trapping and Sterilisation Network) are rallying for Gericke to be jailed.

A witness claimed Gericke admitted to her that he had shot the cat.

The woman said Gericke hated Nahla for always chasing his beloved birds.
