Durban - Four youths were expected to appear in the eSikhaweni Magistrate’s court near Empangeni after they allegedly forced a group of younger boys to rape each other.

Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said the group of boys had been swimming at Madaka reserve in the Mkhobosa area of eSakhawini when they were allegedly attacked by the youths.

She said that the four, who are aged between 15 and 19 years old, face charges of compelled rape and assault with intent to grievous bodily harm.

The four were arrested by the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The Zululand Observer newspaper reported that the 10 boys had gone swimming at the Injunga dam to cool themselves when they were accosted by the group of youths.

It was not clear how many attackers there were and if police expected to arrest more teenagers.

According to the newspaper two of the youths were arrested on Tuesday after being identified on video of the attack that was circulated on social networks.

An uncle of one of the boys was quoted by the newspaper as saying: “They were dragged into a forest, and were forced to have sex with each other.”
