Pretoria - A police investigation is under way into allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour by a teacher at St Alban’s College in Pretoria.

Eye Witness News (EWN) reported on Monday that the teacher from the boys’ school resigned after two pupils came forward claiming he sexually abused them.

St Alban’s College is situated in Lynnwood Glen. It is one of the most expensive in the country with annual fees rising close to R200 000 next year.

EWN reported that the two pupils came forward two weeks ago, claiming a teacher had abused them. The teacher resigned after an internal investigation. Police are investigating.

According to EWN, details of alleged abuse have not been disclosed by the school, but the Gauteng Education Department is aware of the incident. It says the pupils are receiving counselling.

The department’s spokeswoman, Phumla Sekhonyane, was reported as saying the department is pleased with the way the school has handled the situation. “We’re pleased with the attitude of the school. We also want to remind all schools that learners must get as much support as possible from all of us.”
