Johannesburg - The red berets were expected to bring Joburg traffic to a standstill during their “massive march” to the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein on Tuesday.

The EFF protest action was expected to eclipse the size of the DA’s “blue wave” which swept through the CBD last month.

Joburg metro police spokeswoman Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said the marchers were due to start assembling at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown from 8am, with 8000 supporters expected to take part.

She said the marchers, who were expected to finish around 4pm, would then disperse via Queen Street into Peter Roos Park.

“The traffic will be affected in the morning when the EFF start marching. We know the EFF marches have always been very big. They have staged some massive ones. But we have always managed them well and we are ready for this one too,” Mamo-nyane said.

Traffic in central Joburg was brought to a halt last month when thousands of DA supporters from across the country marched through the city centre in support of their campaign for jobs.
