Durban - Every season we see an item of clothing that everyone is wearing, whether it flatters them or not.
We see variations of it, and it can be dressed up or down.
Since the 1990s, when Kate Moss made it iconic, the slip dress has been the one item that almost every woman has worn. Whether as a dress or even as a night garment or lingerie, it’s as ubiquitous as a pair of jeans. But it hasn’t been as popular as it is right now.
Moss showed the world how to wear it, but it’s Rihanna who has made it her costume. She’s worn it at several red carpet events – where she dressed it up – and on the street, wearing it with sneakers, a beanie and a denim jacket. It’s because of its versatility that it has been declared the clothing item of the season.
But it was also huge during the Spring/Summer 2016 fashion shows in September, with Vetements showing a lavender slip dress, worn with a hunter green hoodie. Other labels such as Courrèges, Burberry Prorsum, Rochas, Emilio Pucci and Céline showed the various ways you can wear the dress.
