London - Pregnant women who have cancer treatment are not exposing their unborn child to health problems, researchers said .

Neither chemotherapy, radiotherapy nor surgery had a “significant” difference on a baby’s development, they said.

Scientists at University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium said there was no reason to delay treatment – and that infants suffer more from a premature birth than from chemotherapy.

But experts who examined 129 children born after exposure to cancer treatment in the womb said they “cannot guarantee that all types of chemotherapy are safe”.
