Cape Town - Next Saturday is the fourth annual Tattoo-a-thon in aid of the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa.

On this day, tattoo studios all around South Africa donate their services at a special hourly rate to help raise funds for children battling cancer, while helping to dispel society's negative perceptions of people with ink. Whether you're thinking about getting your first tattoo, planning to add to your collection, or simply need touch-up work, this is the perfect time to do it.

Since its inaugural event in 2012, the Tattoo-a-thon has raised more than R500 000. In addition to tattooing, contributions are made by selling various merchandise, artworks, and original flash designs. Even if you don't want to take the plunge and get marked for life, all donations to the charity are welcome.

To participate, visit the website at www.tattooathon.co.za and click on “Book a Tattoo”. Supporters will be able to browse through a list of participating tattoo studios in their city.

Once they have chosen a studio that they like, booking a slot through the Quicket link at the bottom of the page is simple. All that is left to be done is turn up on October 17, get inked and have fun doing it. The Tattoo-a-thon takes place in Joburg, Cape Town, Nelspruit, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Pietermaritzburg and Bloemfontein.

And yes, I’ve booked my appointment.
