Healthy lunch that tastes great too

Cape Town - It was the week the World Health Organisation had turned processed meat into everyone's favourite villain.

Yet it seemed to be popping up in every meal I ate: smoked chicken pasta, lazy mommy steak house dinner, a birthday braai. Gee whiz,I couldn't get away from it, nor my guilt.

So it was with great pleasure that I accepted a lunch-time brown paper bag delivery from the Daily Dietitian.

Inside was a medium-sized container with a healthy and fresh meal. No meat in sight.

Instead there were quinoa and broccoli patties with lemon, mint and pea cauliflower couscous, shredded chicken, crunchy red cabbage, a sprinkling of gogi berries and a coconut and tumeric dressing.

The meal was gorgeous, filling and tasty, and ticked all the trendy health food boxes.

There was even chocolate dessert. Ok, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, (guilt-free) raw chocolate balls.

And, according to the Daily Dietitian website, it added up to a grand total of 1400 calories.

How it works is people in Cape Town and Joburg can select their preferred meal package online and have these meals delivered on a daily basis or pick them up at the Daily Dietitian’s kitchens.

Their sales pitch is: less grocery shopping, preparing and cooking meals means less chance of falling into old habits or allowing yourself to be deceived by misleading “healthy foods”.

Daily Dietitian founder Laura Hoogland says: “We’re a business focused on addressing the health and time concerns that are becoming increasingly prevalent on both a local and global level. Merging the expertise of a dietitian with meal delivery takes away the confusion around nutrition and allows us to help as many people as possible reach their health goals. Our food is fresh and delicious – so it’s really easy to stay healthy!”

They currently deliver within a 30km radius from their kitchens in Cape Town and Joburg and meal prices start from R89.70
