Carte Blanche on Sunday night aired the last image of Reeva Steenkamp, exchanging banter with a security guard as she entered the gated home of Oscar Pistorius, before the Paralympian shot her dead.

Steenkamp, driving a metallic grey mini cooper, appeared jovial on the CCTV footage.

Steenkamp turned up at Pistorius’s complex at 6pm on the eve of Valentine’s Day. Soon afterwards the cameras at the Silver Woods estate caught Pistorius arriving in a luxury white car. He too looked relaxed.

Steenkamp’s mother, June, told Carte Blanche how a policeman broke the news about her daughter.

“There’s been an accident and she’s been shot. I am sorry to have to tell you but I don’t want you to read it in the papers – Reeva’s dead.”

Reeva’s father Barry – asked how he was coping – was too emotional to respond.

The British newspaper, The Sun, reported that Reeva had been living with her best friend Kim Myers and her parents when she went to Pistorius’s.

Kim’s dad Cyril got a text from the model saying: “Hi guys, I’m too tired. It’s too far to drive. I’m sleeping at Oscar’s tonight. See you tomorrow.”

Cyril Myers, who had to identify Reeva’s body, said: “Tomorrow never dawned for her.

“I have nightmares at night thinking how frightened she must have been.”
