THREE teenagers who allegedly held up Metrorail passengers with a toy gun, have been released on warning, police spokesperson Andre Traut said yesterday.

The three, aged 14, 16 and 17, were initially arrested and detained for possession of a dangerous weapon and imitation firearm, he said.

“They were detained at Muizenberg SAPS and released into the custody of their parents. It is alleged that a member of the public was threatened with an imitation firearm,” Traut said.

Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott said its protection services found a 14-year-old with a toy gun attempting to stage a robbery on board a train near Muizenberg on Monday afternoon. “They handed the suspect over to SAPS where he was questioned and released after a warning,” she said.
