Hundreds of relatives, friends, pupils, educators and community members filled Mondale High School hall in Portlands, Mitchells Plain yesterday for a memorial service for the three matriculants killed in a car accident last weekend.
At 6am on Saturday, Kelly Ford, Leigh-Anne Swail and Keenan Smith, all 18, died when the car in which they were travelling collided with a Golden Arrow bus in Spine Road, Strandfontein.
The only survivor, Nazan Klaasens, is recovering at home after having head surgery.
Yesterday, three candles were lit in their honour.
Classmate Kayla Fortune(cor) said the class would remember Smith for his vibrant smile, good looks and bubbly personality.
Others said Ford and Swail would be remembered for the love of fashion and compassion for others.
Swail’s funeral is expected to take place today at the Christ the King church in Rocklands at 10am. Ford’s funeral will be held at the New Apostolic church in Portland on Saturday at 11am while Smith’s service will be held at the Goodhope Christian Centre in Strandfontein at 9am.
