AN ELDERLY couple brutally attacked in their Claremont home on Thursday are still fighting for their lives in intensive care units at Groote Schuur and Vincent Pallotti hospitals, while the suspects are still at large.

Brian Hodgson, 74, and his wife Carol, 70, were attacked in their Washington Street home after suspects had entered their house through a sliding door. It appeared the attackers had entered through a neighbour's yard, said Annie Bisset, a neighbour.

She said Brian Hodgson had been stabbed several times, while his wife suffered a broken arm.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said no arrests have been made at this stage. “There are no new developments to report. Our investigation continues.”

Groote Schuur hospital spokesperson Alaric Jacobs said Brian was still in a critical condition. “He is going to be here for a while.” He could not say how many times he had been stabbed, and where.

Vincent Pallotti spokesperson Regan Beukes said Carol was in their intensive care unit.
